Big Day – Postscript

Thanks for all your well wishes!

Unfortunately, luck wasn’t on our side today, and he had an allergic reaction after 1/8 teaspoon of yoghurt.

No worries though, we’re all good here. I always take him to a big toy shop and let him choose (almost) whatever he’d like afterwards. I think he may have figured out that the more challenges he has to endure (ie, fail), then the more trips to the toy shop that will be. I don’t mind spoiling him on this one day of the year. :-)

And when I saw that the ward we visited today was right next to the oncology ward, I felt very, very lucky that we were there for such a trivial matter.

As I said, all good here. Thanks again for wishing us well.

  1. Yoghurt is over-rated!

  2. I love how (even when it all doesn’t go well) you have this all in perspective. Well done to both of you. Even though the news wasn’t what you were hoping, surely the key is accepting it and dealing with it. I hope the toy was really cool. Really really cool. I bet it was. Love cool toys.

  3. So sorry that the allergy is still so severe, but glad that he tolerated the reaction as well as he did. A trip to the toy store is a very good thing to ease his mind.

  4. Sorry it wasn’t better news, but glad it wasn’t worse news too. I spent a lot of time at that hospital when it was Camperdown and you are right when you say there are always those who are not as well off.

Best wishes to you all :)

  5. As long as kids are thriving, that is all you need.

I had to spend a couple of days with my daughter in hospital having her tonsils out this year and it gives you (lots and lots of…) time to realise how lucky we are and that things aren’t worse.

  6. Sorry to hear it didn’t go well. Here’s to next year! xx

  7. I hope he is over his ordeal now and enjoys his toys. I was a bad asthmatic when I was a child. I was always in hospital but my fond memory’s of being in hospital were the pressies, grapes and the kind nurses, and oh yes a couple of rides down the hallway with a stolen wheelchair from another child. We got caught, got told off and sent back to bed with another nebiliser in tow. xxxx
