Mini Quilt Monday

I am sure that you have heard of Amanda Jean over at Crazy Mom Quilts, and you may well have seen her Ticker Tape quilt. That quilt blows me away. It’s amazing.

She did a smaller version recently, and this was inspiration for a little doll quilt I wanted to make for a sweet little girl whose 2nd birthday I missed. Bad friend.

This was lots of fun to make, and very satisfying to use all those little scraps. Most are about 1″ wide. Some smaller. I didn’t use the same fabric twice. And that scrap of elephants on the orange? I have kept that scrap for so long, always thinking I might use it some day, while a little voice said “you are crazy, it’s too small for anything!” Such satisfaction to see it find a home in this quilt.

Here it is after being washed and dried (on a cloudy day, apparently).

There were a lot of loose threads to trim as the fabric frays a lot in the washing machine. Here’s before washing:

And after washing, drying and trimming:

And the back:

How much do I love that red and white striped binding? An awful lot. More than I should. I need more of that fabric to hoard for binding. Much more.

  20. This was such a lovely surprise for us to come home to last night. She loves it! She immediately laid it out on the floor and rested her head on it. And she has been carrying it around all day today. We are so lucky to have such a talented and thoughtful friend! (not a bad friend at all!). Thank you so much!

  21. it is gorgeous! what a good way to use up those small pieces. Did you plan it, or simply sew bits onto the white background randomly where they fit?
