Red, pink and white quilt
July 8, 2009 at 7:25 am | In Fabric, Large Quilts | 20 CommentsI should call this the blue shoes quilt.
I remember being quite young and dressing myself to go out. I was wearing a red dress and I had two pairs of shoes to choose from. Blue or pink. I chose the pink shoes, because I liked pink and red together and I clearly remember my mother telling me that pink and red should never be put together and the blue shoes would have been a better choice. In a nice way. And I haven’t forgotten.
But I still think pink and red look lovely together, all these years later.
Inspired by two stunning quilts, this one, and more recently, this one, I have started to cut up some fabric for my red, pink and white quilt.
When I saw this fabric, above, at the craft show, it reminded of the grey with the pink and red in the first quilt I linked to. Now I am wondering if I should include a little in mine.
What do you think?

This is going to be a stunning quilt. I would definitely include the stripe … perhaps as the binding?
Enjoy the process.

Kind of like blue and yellow, I think a little grey seems to perk up pink. I would add a little in – but just a bit. But even without it, the fabrics so far look lovely!

I’d add the grey and check your mailbox before you start sewing. Something there may catch your fancy. Grey and pink naturally go together I think. Like the 1950’s.

I quite like it as is without the grey.

I love it as it is too. Very young person, sugary sort of feel. Adding the greys will make it more into an adult or older child sort of a quilt. Gorgeous fabrics!

Hi Sheridan
The fabrics you have chosen are lovely. Grey or black would add great contrast and depth and make it a more interesting quilt I think. Is this for Emmeline? She will still love it when she is 9 if there’s a little grey or black!!

I think grey would look lovely in there too although I am loving it how it is at the moment. Do you need more pink/red I might have some floating around.

Red, pink and grey do go so nicely together, like those lovely old French linens
You have chosen some beautiful fabric there!

I am liking the stripe in with the quilt. Even if it is the binding maybe.

Add the gray! Especially that bit with the dog with a red balloon!

I’m surprised, but I like it! Anthough my 2 cents’ worth would be to take out the floral print with the purple. But definitely call it the Blue Shoes Quilt!

I love it! I love to add a little grey, it makes everything else stand out, and it makes it a little more modern!

I would definitely add the grey – but I have such ’stash envy’ over the grey denyse schmidt seedlings – this added to ANY quilt would make it that much more special!

I’ve never seen grey in a quilt! Wack it in for fun!

Reading the post, I wasn’t fussed about the grey. Then I looked at the first link and I absolutely adore it. It just adds that other dimension.
BTW have you thought about a pattern for your amys for your bedroom quilt. I just bought a plain taupe doona and really think that I need to move my navy(ish) quilt closer to the top of my list.

I like the subtle contrast a little grey and black gives to the red and pink…
