Doll Quilt Sent
May 12, 2008 at 4:12 pm | In Doll Quilts, Swaps | 8 CommentsAre you having trouble keeping track of all these swaps? I know I am. Remember this quilt? Donna sent this to me back in April as part of our little two-party doll quilt swap.
I posted my quilt to her on Friday, and she has just let me know she has it. Here it is:

I loved making this. I became quite obsessed with the Bento Box pattern a few months ago after seeing some gorgeous examples on some blogs. I wanted to make a miniature version.

There is no piece of fabric (excluding the horrible borders. I hate borders. I am not sewing them on my quilts anymore. They don’t like me, and so I am being childish in return. This quilt looked gorgeous until the borders ruined it)…..

Anyway, where was I? Yes, there is no piece of fabric wider than 1 inch. There are 180 pieces in the quilt top, which itself is quite small. I forgot to measure it before I sent it. But you get the picture. This is my excuse for why I took so long.
The fabric is Ginger Blossom by Sandi Henderson for Michael Miller and I used a whole charm pack. Each charm square made 2 ‘alternate’ blocks.

I used white Perle cotton to quilt a ’square’ within each block of four. I love quilting with Perle cotton. It’s shiny and pretty. I am not showing you the back because it is ugly and it doesn’t look how it was supposed to. But it is the back, yeah, so I think I can live with it. Hopefully so can Donna!
Before I go, have a look at this photo which I took just after I sewed on the borders, and see if you can see what gave me that sinking feeling…

Let’s just say the language around here that day wasn’t pretty.
Donna, I hope you like it, and I hope it does it’s job and gives some dolls some extra winter warmth as it gets chillier.

I love my quilt. This one is going up on a wall some where in the new house. I love it so much. When I look at it, it reminds me of you so much – the fabric choice, the pattern you picked and the hand quilting. I think of the time and effort you put in to making a gift for me and I am touched. Thankyou so much for making this for me.
