Orange?

When I saw this post of Loobylu’s, back in 2006, I fell in love with the idea of orange in a child’s bedroom.

I was thinking how great it would pair with pink for a girl. You could have lots of accessories in pink and not be too ‘pinked-out’.

Or pair it with aqua or with a light, steely blue for a boy (see the inspiration photos on Loobylu).

Porter’s Paints have a great colour, Amber, which I love.

See it here with pink:

And with blue:

But! Orange is known to be very stimulating. A Google search reveals these gems:

“As a warm color orange is a stimulant — stimulating the emotions and even the appetite”

“Next to red, orange is the second most stimulating color in the spectrum, but unlike red, orange has not been assigned negative connotations. (In language, for example, the color red is used to indicate something illicit – like a red lady or a red light district.) Where red is stimulating to the body and blood, orange is stimulating to the emotions.

“A sensuous color, orange is perceived as emotionally stimulating, energetic, vibrant and fun”

although that site does go on to say

“On the other hand, the psychological effects of the color orange are much gentler in its pastels and earthy shades. So if you don’t want a strong color impact in your home, shades or tints of the color orange might work much better for you.”

Now, it will be no surprise to you to hear that the idea of stimulating a newborn baby is rather frightful.

So my question is this….would YOU paint a baby’s room orange? Go and have a look at all the orange delights on this blog and tell me what you think.

  1. I love the idea of orange. Are you going to take over henrys room or use the other one.

  2. I love it! I wish I’d thought of it myself – next time we paint, I think that there might be some orange on the walls.

  3. mmm, no wouldn’t paint a brand new babies room bright orange. Depending on how that Porters colour looks on the wall, I may paint some orange. You could always do one wall and then if it looks OK keep going. The Porters colour doesn;t look too bright.

But then I painted a new babies room bright yellow (which is now his favourite colour).
