Again?

My RL friend Kelli kindly reminded me that I was due for my once a month blog post, and I told her not to be ridiculous, I only posted that a week or so ago. But there you go, she was right, as she always is.

I do have a few things to show you at least. My other RL friends know that things have been a little, let’s say, “stressful” around here lately and my favourite thing to do to avoid thinking about such things is to sew like mad.

Luckily we have had a holiday booked, for some time, starting this Sunday. We’re flying off to here.

Poor me, huh? Henry is very excited and talks a lot about “Fiji” and he can already say “Bula” so I figure we are good to go.

The one thing I wasn’t leaving without was a portable DVD player for the plane. When Henry and I flew up to see Donna earlier this year, we had one flight with entertainment on the seat back, and one flight without and let’s just say that was enough to persuade me that no such chances could be taken. We were taking our own.

After negotiating with the nice young man at JB Hi-Fi for the player itself, I was in no mood to pay extra for a case to carry it. “I’ll make one!”, I said. Then he looked at me very strangely, but it is scarcely surprising that he would fail to understand the lure of such a challenge.

And it was a challenge. My hat goes off to those of you who design their own sewing projects. The ability to think backwards is not one I am familiar with, and there were many hours of unpicking to get this “just right”.

The exterior layer is a some cute Japanese fabric I have been dying to use. I thought the black background would help hide the inevitable grot that sets in from travelling. I quilted it before sewing it together with some cotton batting. Then added another layer of thicker wool batting for extra cushioning. The velcro idea I stole from Lara who made her laptop bag at the same time as I was finishing this off. She did a much better job, go and have a look.

It is no masterpiece, but it does the job. And I enjoyed the challenge. I think.

I’m going to try and post a few more finished projects before we leave. So check back over the new few days to see what else I have been doing to waste time!

  1. About time you gave me something to read & see!! Love the bag – very very clever.

Have a lovely trip to Fiji & relax lots & lots. I am so jealous & I still like your idea of taking me – hahaha.

  2. Have a lovely holiday!!! I love the carry case that you made, much better looking than what usually come with these gadgets I’d say :)

  3. I too was waiting for your monthly blogg! You should show the man at JB Hi Fi the DVD carry case. If you want to try a laptop case, I could use one, and it doesn’t have to be GREEN!
    Have a great trip. x

SHERIDAN: Make something for Julie that’s not green? I wouldn’t know where to start! That’s a challenge I might just have to take up….
